Hello everyone,

Many of you may have already met the young and talented Matias of Argentina, who recently arrived in Vancouver for the summer. He has generously offered to give a Canyengue class this Saturday prior to our El Centro Milonga. The class is free and starts at 8:30 p.m.

Canyengue is a historical form of tango that was danced in the 1920s and 30s, when women's dresses were long and tight at the hem. The dancers use a close, v-embrace and bent knees. The rhythmic steps reflect the early music of Francisco Lomuto, Francisco Canaro, Roberto Firpo and today's Los Tubatango.

This is a great opportunity to expand our understanding of tango and its origins.

See you there, Francis and Emiko
